Flower School 2024

I must have flowers, always, and always.

- Claude Monet

2024 sees us launch our first ever flower school here at Ginger House Garden. On consecutive Wednesday evenings throughout May or October join us for an introduction to British flowers and flower arranging. Whether you are simply a flower lover wanting to begin gaining some floristry skills, a florist who wants more experience working with British flowers and more sustainable techniques, or an avid flower arranger wanting to indulge, this is the course for you. Open to all there will be a great mix of demonstrations, practicals, plenty of discussion, and opportunities to tour our cutting garden and pick your own. At the end of the five weeks you should leave feeling inspired and ready to take on your next floral adventure!

 What will I be studying?

  • You will make a hand tie bouquet and learn different techniques for creating the perfect spiral. We will discuss flower selection, stem quantities and flower conditioning. Your completed bouquet is yours to take away with you.

  • This week will focus on the cutting garden and the concept of garden to vase. There will be a tour of our cutting garden alongside a discussion on getting started growing British cut flowers. Using a vase you have brought in from home you will create a perfect in the round arrangement.

  • Week three will introduce you to sustainable floristry techniques. Using no floral foam you will create a bowl centrepiece using flowers you will have the opportunity to go and cut yourself from our cutting garden. There will be a discussion on colour theory and introducing texture to your designs.

  • You will have an introduction to wiring techniques and make your own flower crown. The techniques learnt here can be applied to many different designs.

  • For the final week we will focus on flowers for entertaining. Working as a group you will create a tablescape design using a combination of bowls, bud vases, potted plants etc. You will be introduced to working with props and looking at how to style flowers for a dinner party, wedding or photoshoot.
